Lifestyle Articles :What Are Your New Year’s Resolutions?
Posted on Monday, December 28, 2009
Are you thinking about making New Year’s resolutions for the coming year? The top five resolutions for the general population include: losing weight, exercising more often, quitting smoking, being more fiscally responsible, and finding a better job.[1]
However, according to PR Web, while 45 percent of people make New Year’s resolutions, only eight percent are actually successful in achieving their goals. As a busy nursing professional, finding the time to keep your resolutions can become even more difficult. Here are some tips from Maxim Healthcare Services to make your resolutions hold true in 2010:
Make Realistic Resolutions: For example, if you’ve never exercised, joining a gym in January may not work out, so start with baby steps like exercising at home one or two days a week, then build up to longer, more frequent workouts or take that next step to join a gym.
Make Continuing Education A Priority: Continuing Education can help you get to the next level of your career. Some classes help to maintain CEU requirements. While classes are critically important, most are now offered online, so it’s easier than ever to enroll.
Take A Vacation: You work hard with long hours. Reward yourself with a trip to a country you’ve always wanted to visit, take some time to see your family or get away with friends or family.
Make Some “Me” Time: Other than a vacation, it may be even more important to give yourself some quality time to reflect on where your career has been, where it is now, and where you want it to go in the near future and years down the road.
Practice Your Interviewing Tips: As we said recently in our Post-Interview Tips for Nurses article, you should focus on what to do after an interview to optimize your new job opportunities. Let your prospective employers know you want this job. Reiterate your excitement about being hired. And call your references to let them know that someone will be reaching out to them.
